Five tricks for cleaning your car seat

Of all the accessories we clean in our store specializing in sanitizing baby products, car seats are the dirtiest. That's why our cleaning team has become experts at removing vomit smells, seemingly impossible food stains, and that ingrained grime that makes the seat look old and worn.

To share this experience, we've compiled five easy-to-implement tricks in your own home to help you keep your baby's car seat clean.

TIP: If the car seat is very dirty, we recommend a deep cleaning that includes disinfecting the frame and textiles. If you live in Barcelona, you can bring your stroller to our store in the Gracia neighborhood. You can check out our car seat cleaning service here .

How to clean the car seat?

  1. Long live protective cases
If the car seat is new or has just been dry-cleaned at Bubuclean, the most practical option is to cover it with a protective cover. Washing the entire car seat isn't the same as removing the cover, which is easily removable, and washing it in the washing machine. When purchasing, consider the model and, if it's universal, make sure it fits the dimensions of your car seat.

  2. The vacuum cleaner can work miracles
Before you begin cleaning and moistening the car seat, vacuum the entire accessory, from the backrest to the base. If you see stubborn stains, you can scrub them with soap and water. If there's stubborn dirt, use a toothbrush and scrub gently to avoid damaging the fabric.

  3. Clean the buckles and belt
These are the dirtiest items because they're constantly in contact with your baby's hands. You can wash them with a damp cloth and hypoallergenic soap. If they're very dirty, you can scrub them with a toothbrush until they're as clean as possible. If possible, it's best to dry them in the sun to remove any stains and prevent unpleasant odors.

  4. Wash it when you know you won't be using it for at least 24 hours.
You'll most likely need to wipe it with a damp cloth to remove any remaining dirt, and you'll need to scrub it more than once, and it will end up getting quite wet. Therefore, make sure you don't need to use the car seat for at least the next 24 hours.

  5. Washing the structure without disassembling
If you can't remove the fabrics, you'll need to wash them directly on the frame. To clean the backrest, dampen a cloth with a small amount of neutral soap, making sure it doesn't create too much foam, and rub from top to bottom.
