How to wash your baby's stroller?

If you put your baby's stroller seat under a microscope, how many germs do you think you'll find? A lot!

A walk in the park means muddy little hands, a day at the beach leaves salt stains of all sizes on textiles, and going to and from daycare involves hundreds of scuffs, accumulated bread crumbs, and the occasional slip.

In short: if you are a mom or dad, you know very well that the stroller and your baby are always exposed to all kinds of germs, bacteria and microbes, and washing it from time to time is very good for your peace of mind and the health of your little one .

That's why we've compiled some cleaning recommendations from Bubu Clean, the expert stroller cleaning and disinfection bubble in Barcelona. Let's get to work!

How to wash your baby's stroller?

3 Reasons why you want to wash your stroller

A stroller can have more than one life! A second baby, for example, is the perfect excuse to retrieve the stroller from under the bed, remove all the cobwebs, and give it a good wash.

We share the 3 most common reasons why parents wash their baby's strollers:

  1. New baby on board!
Let's not kid ourselves, if the first baby used absolutely everything—including the stroller—making it brand new for the second is a smart move. In addition to saving money, being able to reuse the stroller makes you a responsible person for the planet.

Recovering the stroller, washing and disinfecting every space, and checking the seams and wheels are some of the main reasons parents need to wash their stroller. Is this your case?

  2. I want to sell it
When they turn 4 and you've decided they've reached the maximum number of children, the adventure of getting rid of everything they no longer need begins: baby clothes, bedding, cribs, toys, and even the stroller.

You have two options. You can sell it as it was, stored in the garage, or you can wash the chassis and fabrics, leaving it as good as new and potentially improving the selling price. If you find yourself in this situation, we recommend using natural light for the images you'll use in your listing. Do you want to sell your stroller on Wallapop?

  3. After an apocalyptic walk
An apocalyptic walk basically boils down to spilled food, liquids, vomit, saliva, crumbs, mud on the wheels, etc.

If the seat's fabrics can be separated from the frame, you're in luck, and everything will be easier. Otherwise, you'll have to juggle cleaning it a bit, or you can turn to Bubu and simplify your life.

What products should you use to wash a baby stroller?

Warning! You're excited to get your baby's car seat looking its best again, but first, you need to make sure you have the cleaning products you need.

Bubu Clean always uses natural and hypoallergenic cleaning products. If you're looking for some natural product tips, we recommend following their Instagram .

Have wet wipes, a sponge, a vacuum cleaner, and a soft-bristled brush handy. Get a piece of plastic to cover the floor of your work area. You don't want to make too much of a mess, do you?

Before you start washing your stroller:

  • Follow the stroller manufacturer's instructions to avoid damaging or wearing out the material prematurely.
  • Don't force any part to disassemble it. If you need to use force, it's because it won't disassemble.
  • Read the instructions for the cleaning products you plan to use and follow the instructions.
  • If you need to, get a spare seat or choose a good time when you know you won't need it, such as after your last walk of the day.

  1. Vacuum cleaner
You'll be amazed at how much can fall out of a stroller when it's shaken a little. Use the vacuum cleaner to remove as much dirt as possible: crumbs, dirt, food scraps. Be careful, you might find pebbles if you don't want to break the vacuum cleaner!
  1. Review of textiles and stains
Identifying the location of the largest and most complex stains is important to know where to focus your efforts. Use a natural stain remover to begin treating the toughest stains.
  1. Washing accessories
Remove items that can easily be detached from the stroller, such as clasps, straps, zippers, buttons, and pins, and place them in the washing machine.
    • To protect against possible Velcro snags and tearing of textiles, place each piece in a mesh washing machine bag.
    • Use a neutral, hypoallergenic detergent specifically for baby clothes, even for those with atopic skin. The composition is free of allergens, sensitizing preservatives, and optical brighteners.
    • We do not recommend using a dryer. Sun drying is preferred.
  1. Disassemble the stroller
Not all stroller brands allow you to remove the fabric and wheels from the frame. Find out if you can do this with your stroller according to the manufacturer's instructions. And if you can, we recommend recording a video of the entire process because it's not always easy to remember how all the parts fit together.
  1. Washing textiles
If you can put it in the washing machine, keep in mind the following steps:
    1. Treat stains with natural products. You can use a sponge or soft-bristled brush to scrub the stain. Let it sit for the time indicated in the instructions for the product you used.
    2. To protect against possible Velcro snags and tearing of textiles, place each piece in a mesh washing machine bag.
    3. Use a neutral, hypoallergenic detergent specifically for baby clothes, even for those with atopic skin. The composition is free of allergens, sensitizing preservatives, and optical brighteners.
    4. We do not recommend using a dryer. Sun drying is preferred.
    5. We always recommend using the “Hand Wash” program.

If you find it impossible to disassemble the stroller or the manufacturer's instructions say you can't wash the fabrics in the washing machine, use a sponge with a neutral, hypoallergenic soap to wash the fabrics, including the hood and straps.

    • Pay special attention to the stains.
    • Thoroughly wipe down the areas of the stroller where the most dirt accumulates.
    • Use the bristle brush for better scrubbing.
    • Rinse all surfaces thoroughly. You don't want a foam party every time it rains and you're outside!
  1. Washing the structure
Use a sponge and mild, hypoallergenic soap to clean the chassis. You can use a small brush to reach into nooks and crannies. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cloth to avoid leaving marks!
  1. Wheel cleaning
Most brands have removable wheels that can be easily cleaned in a tub with warm water, a little detergent, and a brush. Extra tip: Wheel axles, suspension, and all connections should be lubricated with oil.
  1. Assembling the stroller
Once you've made sure everything is completely dry, the assembly adventure begins. Don't remember how to attach the straps? Don't worry, luckily you listened to Bubu, and the video you recorded contains the steps you need to follow.
